Blacklion is a small village on the shores of Lough MacNean in Co Cavan among the highlands of the North West of Ireland.

This beautiful area of unspoilt countryside has wonderful views of lakes and mountains, world-class caves, Fantastic fishing facilities,Megalithic tombs at the Cavan Burren, an excellent golf club, the source of the River Shannon, and one of Ireland's best restaurants. There's plenty to see and do in west Cavan, and Blacklion is the ideal place to base your holiday in Ireland

Much of the area around Blacklion is now part of The UNESCO Global Geoparks Network making it the first cross border geopark in the world. A geopark is a geological heritages scenic spot of special geoscientific significance, rare natural attribute and aesthetically ornamental value and with given scale and distribution scope, which integrates other natural scenes and sights and that of cultural interest into a unique natural area. It is not only a site for travel and sightseeing, vacationing and health recuperation as well as cultural recreation at a relatively high scientific level, but also a key protected area of geological heritages and base for geoscientific research and popularization.
